Day 10 (June 12) Serene Sorrento and Capri
Today is a free day and most people in the group went to Capri. We decided to see Sorrento and, for us, this was a great choice. Sorrento is a wonderful place. As we were walking toward Piazza Tasso from the hotel, we stopped in a shop and the lady pointed out that inlaid woodwork was a unique art in Sorrento. She suggested we might want to go to the Museo Correale di Terranova. This was an excellent suggestion and we enjoyed the museum greatly. The museum is a beautiful venue with much more than inlaid wood. On the way we walked down Corso Italia and through the Lemon Grove which is across the street from the museum. The Museo Correale also has a beautiful garden in a lemon grove.
We walked back to Piazza Tasso on via Correale which was vey nice. After more wandering, we had pizza at the Ristorante Pizzeria Lanterna Due. Good food, pleasant waiters, and a nice atmosphere. We decided to do the Rick Steves suggested walk . We did the walk and went in the Cathedral which has some awesome inlaid wood and a striking chapel in turquiose marble. We also saw the Cliffside Square that has a Franciscan church with a beautiful little cloister. After the walk, we stopped at the Foreigner's Club for excellent views of the Bay of Naples and Marina Piccola. The views were some of the best on the trip. The aperol spritzer was not bad either.
As the sun was setting we walked along the seaside on via Veneto and via Marina Grande to Marina Grande. Marina Grande was breathtaking in the setting sun as we had dinner at Trattoria da Emilia. The food was simple but fresh and tasty. It was a super day and Sorrento was unforgettable.
