Day 8 (June 10) Free Day on the Amalfi Coast
Today is a totally free day and we plan to make it leisurely. No plans except for dinner reservations. The Hotel Savoia has a beautiful outside terrace for breakfast. We took our time, soaked up the view, and enjoyed the food and cappucino. Almost all of the group had left by the time we finished. Eventually, we walked down toward the beach (Spiaggia Grande) stopping along the way to take pictures or on a whim. We went into the Church of Santa Maria Assunta for a few minutes. Then more strolling. Positano is beautiful and a perfect place to experience the joy of doing nothing. Finally, we made it to the beach and walked along the board walk to the night club Music on the Rocks that was not open at this time.
We decided to make the walk around the cliffs to the Furnillo Beach. It was a great idea with beautiful views. The light on the water was striking as we walked along the little trail. We stopped at a beach cafe for lunch and drinks on the Furnillo Beach. Then back to the hotel for siesta and the views from our hotel room's terrace.
We went to dinner at the La Terra that is located higher up the cliff (Montepertuso) from our hotel. So, they sent a van for us. Stan, Jeanne, Tricia, and Patti went with us and it was a great evening. We had very good fish dishes and a concert by the owner and one of the waitresses. Gary had the frutti di mare and Nancy had the catch of the day. Excellent wine and complimentary lemoncello.
