Day 2 [June 4) Layers of Rome
Today we had a super tour with Francesca Caruso, an awesome local guide. We started at our hotel and walked along the Tiber to Ponte Cestio, crossing over Isola Tiberina to the Jewish Quarter. Francesca led us through the Jewish Quarter providing comentary from time to time and then to the Capitoline Museum for a tour. Francesca is fascinating and one of the highlights of a Rick Steves tour in Rome. After the tour, we ate lunch at the Caffe Capitolino and took advantage of the excellent views of Rome from the patio.
As we walked back to Trastevere, it began to rain so we took shelter under part of Teatro di Marcello. A most unique and historic place to wait out a shower. After the shower we made our way to Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere and found a front row table outside at Ristoranti Sabatini. We spent the remainder of the afternoon in the gorgeous sunshine watching people and sipping wine. A really relaxing and pleasant afternoon absorbing the culture, journaling, and just being here.
